Liberty Mutual Foundation
Established in 2003, Liberty Mutual Foundation supports the communities in which we live and work. In partnership with our grantees, our common purpose is: to invest the expertise, leadership and the financial strength of Liberty Mutual Insurance and its employees to improve the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors.
We support nonprofits that work to empower families and individuals who are struggling to thrive amid challenging situations. Our grant-making priorities focus on organizations and programs in Greater Boston, Greater Puget Sound, and select counties of Washington State (defined below) to provide advanced security and resilience for people and communities.
Greater Boston, defined as: | Greater Puget Sound and select counties of Washington State, defined as: |
---|---|
Boston | King County |
Brockton | Pierce County |
Cambridge | Snohomish County |
Chelsea | Thurston County |
Quincy | Kitsap County |
Randolph | Spokane County |
Somerville |
We seek to accomplish this through our three strategic goals:
- Advancing security through access to the basic needs of food and shelter
- Building resilience for people by expanding access to education and career development opportunities
- Building resilience for communities by responding to the challenges of climate change
We strive to give nonprofit organizations the flexibility they need. Therefore, Liberty Mutual Foundation makes single and multi-year program grants, supplemented by occasional operating support, and capital grants that are invitation only. Discretionary proposals initiated by nonprofits are accepted on a rolling basis. Our Request for Proposals (RFPs), specific to each funding area, are time limited, and have set deadlines.
Our goal is to invest in leadership that is responsible. We give preference to nonprofit organizations with these attributes:
- solid financials
- clearly articulated systems for measuring impact
- a strong board and staff
- thoughtful strategic plans and budgets
